Position Summary
We are looking for a Regulatory Affairs Lead, reporting to the Director of Regulatory Affairs, who will be responsible to provide strategic and functional regulatory leadership across the Canadian Nestlé Health Science business, while collaborating across functions to maximize patient and consumer outcomes.
A day in the life of a Regulatory Affairs Lead
As a Regulatory Affairs Lead at Nestlé Health Science, your day would involve leading and overseeing the regulatory function, ensuring that our regulatory strategy is implemented consistently in Canada. You will be responsible for ensuring that our products are safe, compliant and attractive, which contributes to maintaining consumer, healthcare professional and patient trust in our brands and services. You will drive regulatory activities, provide value-added regulatory strategies across the platforms of the Health Science business, and contribute to the Innovation & Renovation process. Each day, you would play a key role in ensuring that our organization meets its Compliance mandate and operates with a strong foundation. You will apply your expert knowledge in regulatory to ensure the compliance of your assigned brands and projects from formulation through post-launch activities. By being agile and business focussed you will influence and strategically negotiate with external stakeholders to shape the regulatory environment and to support Nestlé Health Science business growth.
You will also:
• Deliver regulatory strategic assessments, recommendations and actions together with other functions, in decisions regarding patient/consumer safety and risks for all brands and categories within NHSc Canada, including Foods for Special Dietary Use, Food, and NHPs
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert on assigned Regulatory projects and topics relevant to the success of the company
• Be accountable for the strategy of regulatory submissions for licensing and health authority engagements for new products, ingredients, claims or regulatory amendments as co-created with cross-functional team members. Assess responses to health authority requests and apply valid scientific rationale to facilitate regulatory approvals and/or positive assessments
• Ensure regulatory compliance of assigned brands and projects for: formulations, raw materials and finished products, labelling, product communication, and the implementation of changes in the market with Nestlé standards and local regulations
• Be responsible for regulatory strategic engagements with Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) directly or through industry associations.
• Support regulatory activities and strategy that drive the smooth integration of global investments and acquisitions into the Canadian business.
• Address complex regulatory topics with diligence to shape the regulatory landscape in potentially divergent external environments, negotiating with stakeholders that may hold opposing objectives.
• Leverage competitive compliance opportunities to protect brands and competitive advantage
What will make you successful?
As the successful candidate, you will be an effective communicator, strategic thinker, effectively manage projects utilizing analytical skills to have the capability to negotiate with and influence internal and external parties. You will need to be self-directed, solutions-focused, able to make decision independently and really enjoy a work environment that has changing priorities and urgent situations arising, requiring you to self-manage.
You will also ideally have:
• Advanced degree in Life Sciences or related area. A post-graduate diploma or certification in Regulatory Affairs is an asset.
• Minimum 10 years' progressive experience in Regulatory Affairs within highly regulated food and health products.
• Successful line management with direct and indirect reports and exposure across several functions
• Expert knowledge of Regulatory Affairs in both policy and technical practice covering multiple product categories. These may include highly regulated categories of food and health products: food for special dietary use (FSDU), infant formula, natural health products (NHP) and/or drug (OTC/Rx).
• Knowledge of and/or experience in the scientific, clinical and regulatory context of product development, commercialization, and marketing of highly regulated food and health products in Canada.
• Experience in effective networking.
• Recognised leadership skills.
• Experience in building and implementing strategy in particular area.
• Experience in crisis management.
