Associate/Senior/Staff Drive/Traction Inverter (Powertrain) Performance Modeling Engineer (m/w/d) - Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg
Job Category Engineering & Information Technology
Location Grünheide (Mark), Brandenburg
Req. ID 232174
Job Type Full-time

What to Expect
Tesla’s drive unit development team is looking for a skilled and motivated performance modeling engineer to push the power electronics propelling our vehicles to the next level. Tesla's drive inverter team leverages an advanced parametric inverter model to evaluate performance, determine operating limits, estimate field reliability, support vehicle architecture development and assess novel design or control concepts. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for the development, utilization, maintenance and validation of inverter models in a generalized capacity. Your work will be highly cross functional: you will run trade-off studies, perform multi-objective optimization, and communicate performance expectations and requirements to other system engineering teams. It's an exciting work environment with plenty of engineering resources and bright colleagues to collaborate with. As an industry leading company, Tesla offers the opportunity to work on bleeding edge technology in a fast paced, dynamic, and high visibility role.

What You’ll Do
Develop an inverter modeling framework that will manage key project deliverables, automate reports, manage large datasets, and provide insight into next generation designs.

Work with experimental data to develop power semiconductor and thermal models.

Use and improve the team’s in-house developed semiconductor electrical and thermal characterization tools/setups.

Use Tesla's world class motor and drive unit dynamometers to test inverter operation and validate loss models across torque and speed.

Take part in system level studies to optimize inverter performance for application specific operation.

Collaborate with Motor Design and Control Engineers, Thermal System Designers, Inverter Firmware Developers, and Reliability Engineers to ensure optimal, efficient, safe and reliable operation.

Effectively and proactively communicate modeling results to drive architecture, cost, and performance initiatives.

What You’ll Bring
M.Sc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Excellent understanding of power semiconductors and/or power converters working principle.

Excellent first-principal physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and conversion, and basic thermo-dynamics.

Experience with advanced model development in MATLAB/Simulink, preferably of power converters.

Hands on experience with power-semiconductor double pulse testing and thermal system characterization.

Proficient with common electronic test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, DC-supplies, multimeters, network analyzers, and power analyzers).

Additional Preferred Skills

Experience with large datasets and complex models.

Experience with code repositories and version control systems (e.g., Git).
